How the levels work

Add

  • Level 1: Proper fractions with the same denominator; sums stay below 1.
  • Level 2: Proper fractions with different but related denominators, such as thirds and sixths; sums stay below 1.
  • Level 3: Proper fractions with different, unlike denominators and manageable common denominators; sums stay below 1. Answers must be in simplest form before they are marked correct.

Subtract

  • Level 1: Proper fractions with the same denominator and nonnegative differences.
  • Level 2: Proper fractions with different but related denominators and nonnegative differences.
  • Level 3: Proper fractions with different, unlike denominators and nonnegative differences. Answers must be in simplest form before they are marked correct.

Multiply

  • Level 1: A proper fraction and a whole number, in either order, with a proper-fraction result.
  • Level 2: Two proper fractions with smaller denominators.
  • Level 3: Two proper fractions with larger denominators and more opportunities to simplify. Answers must be in simplest form before they are marked correct.

Divide

  • Level 1: A proper fraction and a whole number, in either order.
  • Level 2: One proper fraction divided by another, with a proper-fraction answer.
  • Level 3: Proper fractions with more varied denominators, using the reciprocal method. Answers must be in simplest form before they are marked correct.
